Solar deflector DIY
A little advice
For all your constructions, we advise you to take a look at our S-Reflect solar reflector, mirror film with performances equivalent to aluminium mirror or mirror glass.
What is the reflector / light deflector and how to use it?
Sunlight is a source of many benefits for mankind. Bone strengthening, internal clock regulation, morale improvement… it is an essential resource for us. However, many homes do not receive enough natural light. Fortunately, there is a simple, effective and ecological solution to this problem: the Solar Deflector!
What is a light deflector/reflector more precisely? In optics, the term deflector/reflector refers to an object that reflects the sun’s rays. This allows you to reflect sunlight back into your home.
This allows a better brightness, with natural light and without energy consumption. Thanks to a reflective and preferably tiltable surface, you will be able to instantly enhance the natural brightness of your darkest rooms. This will allow you to enjoy natural lighting for a longer period of time and therefore extend the time your bulbs are switched on, as well as bring more life to your home.
In order to adapt to the movements of the sun, some have considered designing automated light deflectors. The mirror, following the path of the sun, allows continuous reflection throughout the day and in an optimal way.
Another surprising example is the village Rjukan in Norway. Being located in the polar zone, the inhabitants of Rjukan can only enjoy the sun’s rays half the year. In order to solve this problem, light deflectors have been installed in the main square. They allow the villagers to have a naturally illuminated part of the village.
The same is true in Italy. There is a village in the Italian Alps, deprived of light during the winter months (from November 11 to February 2). They finally solved the problem by installing a huge mirror on the top of a mountain that reflects the sun’s rays.
The Solar Deflector is a highly reflective and orientable mirror, oriented to reflect the rays. It can be placed inside or outside your home, such as under a roof window, behind a window, on the balcony railing on a window ledge or on a terrace.
The Solar Deflector is oriented so that reflected light is sent at any time of the day through an opening in your fireplace. The transmitted rays are projected onto a wall of your fireplace. This will create a natural diffusion of this light in all directions. Your room is thus illuminated by sunlight. And it shows!
Not only do you have better brightness, but the deflector also provides you with natural light without energy consumption. Thanks to a reflective and preferably tiltable surface, you will be able to instantly enhance the natural brightness of your darkest rooms. This will allow you to enjoy natural lighting for a longer period of time and therefore extend the time your bulbs are switched on, as well as bring more life to your home.
Our innovation: the S.Reflect mirror
S-ReflecT© is used as a solar reflector and is made of a polymer covered with a thin layer of aluminium which gives it a mirror effect. Then, it is protected from solar radiation (UV) and humidity by a specific varnish. It is the ideal material to build a barbecue, a solar oven or any type of project using the principle of solar concentration (CSP Concentrated Solar Power), either flat, parabolic or cylindrical.
In addition to its incredible mirror quality, the S-ReflecT© allows simple and easy handling. You can fold, tilt and cut it into the shape of your choice. Its thickness of 200 micron still gives it a certain rigidity. In order to create a deflector that is simply effective, it must be glued on a flat surface.
