Using the OMY® solar dryer

Principle

The OMY® solar dryer works with solar energy. The mirror reflector reflects the captured solar radiation by directing it inside the box onto a black absorber so that it is converted into heat.
This heat, which is retained by a glass pane, rises gradually. During this rise in temperature, a system of natural hot air flow coupled with an electric ventilation system (powered by a solar panel) allows to evacuate the humidity of the food placed on the grids in order to dehydrate them.

In what weather?

It is necessary to have "full sun" in order to capture the solar rays necessary for the temperature to rise.
The use of OMY is ideal in the summer when there is a lot of production or overproduction of fruit and vegetables in the orchard or vegetable garden.
As this is also the time when the sun is available, it is the ideal time to use the solar drying activity.

Which foods to dry?

The OMY solar dryer can be used to dry fruits, vegetables, flowers, aromatic and medicinal plants.
Drying food at a low temperature, from 40°C to 60°C, preserves the nutritional quality of the food (minerals and vitamins are largely preserved, with a more concentrated flavour) as well as the benefits and properties of the plants.

It is easy to transport thanks to its carrying handles and has a great stability on the ground thanks to its pyramid shape.
It is compact and has a mirror that unfolds, a space for the solar panel (which powers the ventilation system) and a set of adjustable trays.

In Practice!

1°/ Prepare the food for optimal drying: drain juicy food, cut fruit and vegetables very finely, etc. See the OMY manual.
2°/ Place the food or plants on one or more racks (on a grid or spit). Important: the drying time will depend on the number of racks placed and the type of food to be dehydrated. See the OMY manual.
3°/ Close the upper part of the box with the rope to isolate and keep the heat in the dryer.
4/ Turn the Omy dryer towards the sun and deploy the mirror reflector.
5°/ Turn on the ventilation after having placed the solar charger facing the sun.
6°/ Leave to dry for the time necessary to dehydrate the food.
